Employees suffer brutal beating

• 25 Oct 2007 •

POLICE are searching for two violent robbers who attacked two female employees aged 24 and 22 in the Joker Video Arcade in Calle Frigiliana. They escaped with 300 euros. According to the employees, they had noticed the two suspicious looking men carrying backpacks in the video arcade the same morning of the attack.

As soon as the establishment’s manager left, one of the men put 35 euros on the counter and asked for change. When one employee turned to give him the coins the robbers took out an iron bar and a katana (Japanese sword) which they had hidden in the bags.

According to one employee one of them tried to cut her throat with the katana while the other began beating her colleague with the iron bar. One of the women tried to escape by jumping over the counter but the man with the iron bar cornered her and began to brutally beat and kick her. They then locked the two women in the kitchen, took the money and left.

The two women where rushed to hospital where their multiple wounds and contusions where treated, one woman required stitches in her neck, and both have bruises and fractures from the iron bar.

According to the mother of one of the women, the video arcade should have a security guard as the establishment usually closes at around 2.00AM. She also expressed her shock that the three customers who were there at the time allegedly ran away when they saw the katana and did nothing to help the two women.
