Building starts on solar station

• 31 Oct 2007 •

IT WILL be in the Cortijo San Joaquin, next to the Carlinda district. The first phase will be in service in January with 500 kilowatts of power. The second phase will be in July and add another 700 kilowatts. This phase will occupy an extension of 28,000 square metres. The station will produce a great amount of energy but thanks only to the sun and dozens of rows of mirrors looking up to the sky without emitting any residues or sound.

The company Unisol, with headquarters in Malaga, will be the first to build a station on the ground (there are installations on roofs of buildings) in Malaga. It will have an area of 250,000 square metres.

The man in charge, Jose Manuel Gomez, explained that the first phase of the project has all its licences except one which it expects in a month’s time, although the supports for the solar panels are already being placed.

The Malaga sun is starting to be used for more than just attracting tourists. The Innovation Department of La Junta has received many projects for solar panel stations in 12 municipalities of the province. The Antequera region has the most.
