Supper and amusing show
• 08 Nov 2007 •
Later this month the Jefferies English Theatre will stage their new production ‘A Month of Sundays,’ at the Raj Restaurant in Hotel Garbe, Armação de Pêra.
Supper will include a lightly-spiced starter dish and a main course meal, accompanied by one bottle of wine between two people. An Indian dessert and coffee are served before the play commences.
Playwright Bob Larbey scripted ‘A Month of Sundays,’ but he is best known for his television sitcom, ‘The Good Life.’ The play being staged by the Jefferies theatre group won the prestigious Evening Standard Comedy Award in 1987.
It is a story of human courage, cleverly balancing pathos with delightful comic moments. The cast, under the direction of Suzanne Jefferies, includes Patricia Nasciemento, Diane Cantilon-Inges, Jack Towers, John Griffiths and Victor Graham. The plot unfolds as the main character Cooper - Victor Graham – encounters Aylott, played by John Griffiths.
In the original West End production George Cole played the leading role of Cooper and both the character and the actor received exceptional reviews. Victor Graham, a professional actor in Britain, has been seen in the Algarve acting in ‘Supper Theatre’ venues around the area and most recently at Loulé’s Municipal Theatre. A highly polished actor, Victor ran his own successful theatre company in Scotland for 38 years.
Suzanne Jefferies has been a professional actress since 1958 working both in Britain and around the world. She has experienced success as a performer and director. She both acts in and directs the current production.
She has spent increasingly long periods in the Algarve since she first came on holiday here in the 1990’s. Frequently seen on stage with Victor, they are held in high regard by the regular theatregoers in the Algarve.
The show will play Wednesday 14 November and Thursday 15 November and will also be staged on January 23 and 24 2008 at the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra.
Tickets at 30 Euros include the meal, wine, coffee, a programme and the show with the meal commencing at 7PM and the show beginning at 9PM.
