Government selling used cars

• 22 Mar 2007 •

THE government announced that it has sold off used cars from its fleet, raising a total 144,000 euros, more than double the amount initially expected. A total of 117 vehicles were sold at the auction, including some of particular interest to collectors, like a Land Rover all-terrain-vehicle and a Portuguese-made UMM offroader.

Top-end models, including a BWM 850i and a Porsche 944, drew the most interest, the government said.

The Porsche alone received 200 bids. The cheapest car at the auction was a 1982 Peugeot with 392,000 km which was auctioned with an opening bid of 50 euros and the most expensive was a 1990 BMW which had an opening bid of 10,000 euros.
