FINALISTS in Curie Cancer Care’s charity golf tournament – the Queen Mother’s Cup – teed off on the five Star Henry Cotton course at Le Meridien Golf Resort in Penina, Portugal (host to the Portuguese 2006 Open).
Two competitions took place, with the winning men and ladies from the 10 regional finals held across the UK last autumn, playing for the coveted winners’ cups. Men’s winner was Daryl Symonds of Cobtree Manor Park Golf Course, who scored 29. Daryl also won the Mens Longest Drive.
Women's winner was Fanny King, of Wimbledon Park Golf Club, who scored 39. Liz Moverley of Copt Heath Golf Club won the Ladies Longest Drive competition. Established in 1948 – the same year as the NHS – Marie Curie Cancer Care is now one of the UK’s largest charities. Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, the charity provides care to around 25,000 people with cancer every year, along with support for their families. | Return to Top
