Earthquake in the Algarve

AN earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was felt last week in Lagos, Portimão, Lagoa and Silves. According to Portugal’s Meteorological Institute, no damage was reported. The earthquake had its epicentre 85 kilometres south of Cape Saint Vincent. It was felt the strongest in Lagos and Portimão and less intensely in Lagoa and Silves.

According to the Algarve’s Centre for Rescue Operations in the region, apart from some requests for information from local fire brigades, there was only one call from a citizen regarding the earthquake. Earlier this year, on February 12, the Algarve was hit by an earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, the strongest felt in Portugal in more than 30 years.
