Brothers steal copper wiring
• 15 Nov 2007 •
PROSECUTORS are asking for three years jail for three brothers accused of stealing at least 100 kilos of copper wiring from electrical installations in the La Huertecilla industrial estate, Campanillas. The brothers, two of whom have previous police records, stole the wiring on six different occasions, resulting in residents of Malaga having no electricity for several days.
Reportedly, the price of copper wiring has lately quadrupled, with the price for one kilo going from two euros to nearly eight. This has resulted in a wave of similar thefts in the province, including from the AVE train construction sites between Malaga and Cordoba.
According to the prosecution, the brothers stole more than 8,303 euros worth of copper wiring, caused damage costing nearly 29,000 euros and cut electrical supplies to many companies on the industrial estate, thereby preventing them from carrying out their business. As well as the jail sentence, public prosecutors are asking that the accused pay for these damages. | Return to Top
