Giant snow slope in Faro

A GIANT outdoor ‘real snow’ slope will be the greatest attraction of this year’s festive season in Faro. The structure will be installed at the Pontinha Square and is scheduled to start operating on November 24, remaining open until January 6.

“It will be the only structure of its kind in the south of Portugal,” said Faro Town Councillor, João Marques, adding, “The snow slope will be eight metres high, with a total length of 60 metres.” Marques added that the Town Council is also studying the possibility of using the slope to organize a snowboard competition before Christmas.

The slope will be open everyday from 3pm till 9pm and people shopping in the Faro downtown will receive ten per cent discount coupons for the purchase of tickets to the snow slope.

The town councillor said, “With this initiative we want to attract more people to come to the downtown area of the city, in order to try to boost the vitality of that traditional commerce area of Faro.”

The Town Council said an investment of some 70,000 euros is being made in this initiative and announced that all profits will go to local charities.
