Worker dies after fall

A 25-year-old man has died after falling from the roof while putting up Christmas lights at Dunnes Stores in Mijas Costa.

It is not known how he came to fall from a height of approximately seven metres but he had to be rushed by helicopter to Carlos Haya hospital in Malaga with brain trauma and chest injuries.

He was taken to the Intensive Care Unit and reported to be in a serious condition. He died the following morning from his injuries.Local Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the accident and witnesses confirmed that the man (who works for Felix del Rio Assembly, subcontracted by Morales Iluminacion SL, a company which specialises in festive lighting for shopping centres) was working without a harness or any other safety equipment.

So far, 13 people have died this year in Malaga from work related accidents, most of them in construction.
