Fire leads to evacuation

A FIRE which broke out at a Sevillana – Endesa electrical transformer on Calle Travesia del Rio, Velez Malaga, caused the four-floor Conjunto Axarquia building to be evacuated as a precautionary measure and the electricity was cut off in the town centre for several hours.

National Police and firemen evacuated the building and the fire was extinguished. The building also had to be ventilated as burning plastic from electrical equipment had caused large quantities of smoke. The residents were allowed back to their homes approximately one hour later with some complaining that it isn’t the first time there has been such a fire in the facilities.
