World Healthcare Symposium in Albufeira

• 29 Nov 2007 •

HEALTHCARE students from around the globe are in the Algarve to attend the 2007 edition of the World Healthcare Students’ Symposium (WorldHSS) which is taking place in Albufeira until December 1. Around four hundred students from medicine, pharmacy, nursing and allied health backgrounds are at the Montechoro hotel to participate in the symposium which, according to its organizers, aims at promoting effective cooperation amongst healthcare professions worldwide in order to improve the health outcomes of patients.

WorldHSS is a joint initiative of the European and International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federations, Pharmaceutical Students’ Association, International and European Nursing Students’ Associations and the International and European Federations of Medical Students’ Associations.

The symposium is being hosted by the Portuguese Nursing, Medical, Pharmacy and Medical Technologists’ Student Associations. Since the inaugural event in 2005, the WorldHSS has gained the support of the World Health Organization, as well as of several international patients’ organisations. The symposium programme includes several interactive sessions led by students and world renowned experts who will address topics such as education, ethics and public health worldwide.

The last day of WorldHSS will coincide with the International HIV/AIDS day, so the organizers have prepared a number of activities that concern this theme, including awareness campaigns and an auction of items relating to past or present publicity campaign papers about HIV/AIDS brought by the participants from their countries. All funds raised will revert to HIV/AIDS social support institutions.
