Son forced father to give him money

LOCAL POLICE have arrested a 40-year-old man in the La Trinidad neighbourhood in Malaga city for habitually physically mistreating his 85-year-old father. According to statements taken from both elderly parents their son would push his father, or grab him by the throat if they did not give him money. According to Police sources the 40-year-old was living somewhere else but would come to his parents house once a month for an agreed 400 euros they gave him. But when this amount apparently became insufficient he became more violent in his attempts to force his parents to give him more. Allegedly, he would ask for amounts of around 30 or 50 euros and according to the victim his son would sometimes demand up to 600 euros.

Both elderly parents have mobility problems, especially the mother who is in a wheelchair and has suffered psychological abuse from her son. The elderly father had reported his son for physical abuse two years ago in a statement in which he stated that his son had dragged him along the floor, but he later withdrew it. According to Police sources the senior displayed bruises on his wrists and elbows.

The present arrest was the result of a woman who called assuring them she could hear the quarrel going on in the elderly couple’s house. Local Police officers spoke to the couple and the father agreed to make a statement. His son was arrested soon afterwards when he was on his way back to his parent’s house.
