Protest against domestic violence

• 29 Nov 2007 •

Zero violence: Thousands protest for end to domestTHE platform against domestic violence ‘Violencia Cero’ (Zero Violence) held a protest march last week in Malaga City  According to Local  Police sources, around 5,000 people participated in this campaign aimed at young people and therefore potential future aggressors and victims. Phrases and slogans including “Don’t kill those you love” and “No more domestic terrorism” could be heard and seen in Calle Larios on which silhouettes, simulating police chalk marks, with the names of the women who have died this year in Spain as result of domestic violence had been painted.

The Junta de Andalucia, the Town Hall, representatives of the CCOO and UGT trade unions and political party leaders were all present on the day. The mayor himself marched alongside the protestors.  According to the president of the platform this year the campaign focused on  secondary schools to ensure that young girls and women are able to detect violence as soon as possible so that they can get out of the vicious  cycle without having to wait from ten to twelve years as women of previous  generations have had to do.
