Drink-driving bus driver sentenced

THE 44-year-old bus driver, who was accused of driving a school bus while under the influence of alcohol with 46 minors, aged between 12 and 14 aboard, has been sentenced to a year and a half in jail and has had his licence revoked for four years. The driver – who had previously been sentenced in 2003 for drink driving – was taking the bus on an excursion to Selwo Marina in Benalmadena.

According to the judge, the driver had put the lives of the 46 children and two teachers on board at risk, and that his reflexes and perception were clearly affected as a result of the elevated amount of alcohol he had consumed.

Man cuts off woman’s ear

NATIONAL POLICE are still searching for a man who allegedly cut off part of a 51-year-old woman’s ear with a knife.    According to sources close to the case, the victim had one of many arguments with the  aggressor and his girlfriend when the man attacked her with a knife and ran away. When Local Police arrived at the scene of the incident in Calle Strachan in the centre of Malaga City, they arrested the attacker’s 30-year-old girlfriend for her alleged involvement. According to  police sources, all three are from Senegal and are hawkers who usually sell wooden figures in Calle Larios.

Man scalds friend with hot water

THE Provincial Court in Malaga has sentenced a 27-year-old man to 18 months in jail for attacking his friend with a knife and   throwing a pot of hot water over his back.

Allegedly, the two men, both Moroccans, were arguing in an apartment in Calle Ramal del Hoyo in Torremolinos; the   dispute became violent when the aggressor grabbed a knife and cut the other man on the hand as well as throwing a glass at him. The victim suffered second degree burns over eight per cent of his body and had to remain hospitalised for eight days. He has been left with a large scar over nearly half of the left side of his back and neck.

The accused reportedly confessed to the crimes during the court hearing and has accepted the jail sentence asked for by the prosecution as well as the compensatory payment to the victim of 8,050 euros.
