Gang members apprehended

• 29 Nov 2007 •

NATIONAL POLICE have arrested three Italians who formed part of an organised gang of robbers in Malaga.

According to police sources, they are responsible for at least two assaults and robberies.   Allegedly, the gang’s method  involved following their selected victim – to make sure they had a significant amount of money on them – then hitting them on the head to disorient and rob them. Officers say at least two of the accused, a man and a woman, could be the individuals who jumped on a 72-year-old man who was walking in the Cortijo Alto area in Malaga, causing him to hit his head against a car which left him dazed. They took  advantage of his condition to steal the 1,700 euros he had in his pocket. The second robbery the three are suspected of being involved in occurred on the Juan Pablo II Bridge, when a 62-year-old woman was  assaulted by two individuals dressed in sports clothes. They allegedly robbed her of jewellery, her mobile phone and 220 euros. It seems there has been an increase in this type of assault  and a specialist team has been brought in to catch these violent robbers.
