Sale of public buildings

THE Finance Ministry announced the sale of 97 buildings belonging to the Portuguese State, earning 130 million euros, adding that by the end of year the expected profit with the sale of another 15 buildings would be close to 250 million euros.



Confidence in economy falls

THE National Statistics Institute says consumer confidence and economic climate indicators in Portugal have dropped from 36.8 in October to 37.9 in November and have hit their lowest point since February 2006.



Air strike threat

THE airline union of cabin-crew staff has announced the possibility of their members taking strike action next month. The union is demanding that the government lowers the age of retirement to 60.



Portuguese are poorer

PORTUGAL is the sixth-poorest nation in a group of 30 countries analysed by the OECD. According to the study, Portuguese people are poorer than they were five years ago with the GDP per capita falling from 72 per cent to 69 per cent of the OECD average in 2002.
