Rehabilitation plans for Ba–os del Carmen cause protest

ECOLOGISTAS EN ACCION (Ecologists in action) has protested against the construction of news buildings at Baños del Carmen (area in Malaga capital). The rehabilitation plans for the Baños del Carmen are stated in the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) of Malaga. However, the group claims that the construction of a shopping centre and a promenade will ruin 50 per cent of the eucalyptus grove and will damage one of the most symbolic zones of the city. They propose reforestation of the area. The plan for the rehabilitation of Baños del Carmen also includes a cement promenade across the current beach, which will eliminate the bathing zone and damage the rich marine eco system according to Ecologistas en Accion.
