Follow up on gas explosion

THE 86-year-old man who suffered second degree burns over 25 per cent of his body after a gas bottle exploded inside his apartment in La Victoria, Malaga City,(Euro Weekly 1169), has died according to the Carlos Haya hospital. The senior, who reportedly was wheelchair bound, had been in the intensive care unit at the hospital in a critical condition for several days.

According to fire-fighting sources, a fissure in the gas bottle resulted in a pocket of gas being created during the night; the explosion occurred when the man tried to turn the stove on the next morning. The same sources explained that the entire floor on which the explosion occurred had to be evacuated, as well as the fourth and sixth floor. Two other apartments where affected by the explosion and one elderly woman had to be put in a hotel by Malaga Town Hall until she could return to her apartment. The walls in the victim’s apartment were damaged although the building suffered no structural problems.
