Circus animals siezed due to lack of documentation

ROUTINE Inspections which are frequently carried out by Civil Guard Officers of the Seprona department on visiting circuses have revealed discrepancies.

A recent inspection was carried out on a travelling circus and four animals were found to lack the necessary documents.

Two chimpanzees, a python and a brown bear were removed from the circus.

The animals’ owner has been charged with offences against wildlife and endangered species.

The missing documents relate to the paternity and identity of the animals.

The owner claims that the snake was bought in a pet shop in Valencia but the identity code was found to belong to a different snake and the papers relating to the bear did not identify the father as required.

The circus has existed for 14 years and the owners claim that their animals are treated well and that they have never failed any inspections in the past.
