Food collection for the needy

• 27 Dec 2007 •

AS IS traditional at this time of year, the Lions Club charity association in Nerja has been carrying out their “Operation Kilo”. Every year the Lions Club collects food donations to then distributes them between people in need.

This tradition began 20 years ago, according to a member of the Lions Club general direction and co-ordinator of the campaign, Jose Moreno, this year it is even more important as there are more marginalised people in the area.

This year food product collection will be carried out in the two Supersol supermarkets in the municipality, last year it was only collected in Calle Antonio Ferrandis.  According to the Lions Club, 60 kilos of food products were collected last year and they expect people to be even more generous this year.  Once collected all products are ordered and put into packages for distribution with the help of the Nerja Social Services and the Red Cross.
