Home owner restrains burglars

• 03 Jan 2008 •

LOCAL POLICE have arrested two Moroccan men on suspicion of burgling a house in Burriana, Nerja after the owner of the house restrained one of them until officers arrived. The couple who own the house arrived home to find the two burglars emptying their house of their belongings. They confronted them and a struggle ensued during which the woman suffered a slight injury. The couple only managed to restrain the burglars for a short while and they eventually escaped in a vehicle.

The man, along with friends and neighbours, then chased them for more than an hour, calling Nerja Local Police from the car as they followed the burglars into Playa Burriana.

The car chase continued until, reaching a narrow and winding Burriana street, the burglars attempted to escape on foot.

One of the alleged burglars was injured and subsequently arrested by local police while the other was being chased by the owner and his group of friends. Eventually they caught up with him and restrained him until police arrived.

According to police sources, the alleged burglars’ car was taken to local police headquarters, and 204 euros in cash were confiscated together with a large quantity of jewellery.

According to the same sources, the two detainees are believed to be residents of Benalmadena and Estepona.
