Portugal’s role in world war one

• 01 Apr 2008 •

Having given many historical talks at the Museu do Trajo in São Brás, Peter Booker has responded to various requests to give similar talks in Tavira.

Peter took his history degree at Pembroke College, Cambridge and has always been interested in Portugal and its history. On Friday, 25 January, at 11:00 am, in the magnificent new municipal library, Álvaro de Campos in Tavira, Peter will begin his series of lectures with a presentation on the rôle of Portugal in World War I.

The many war memorials in the Algarve have prompted Peter to investigate the hows and whys of the seemingly unlikely Portuguese participation in the war. He poses the question, "Did Portugal win this war?"- and comes up with some surprising answers.
