Drivers face nightly problem

• 29 Mar 2007 •

Night time: Not preferable with drivers.MORE THAN a quarter of all drivers have difficulty seeing at night.

This is revealed by experts who identify that they suffer from tiredness, headaches and sore eyes, with the condition mainly as a result of night-time short sightedness.

The condition is even more severe for those who additionally suffer poor eyesight in the daytime.

A mere 13 per cent of all drivers consulted in Spain prefer to be at the wheel at night, when 42 per cent of the nation’s fatal accidents occur, even though there is 60 per cent less traffic on the roads.

• Drivers who find night driving difficult are recommended use prescription glasses and to:

• Not drive more than 90 kph

• Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

• Check rear-view mirrors more frequently.

• Turn lights on at sunset.

• Have an energising drink or something light to eat when feeling tired

• Stop for 20 minutes if feeling drowsy.

• Use full-beam headlights when possible.

• Dip headlights when overtaken.
