Asthma fight in Spain goes on as children worst affected
• 29 Mar 2007 •
RONDA is taking an active part in the nation’s fight against asthma, an illness affecting 10 per cent of children in Spain.
At a congress in the town dedicated to the illness, Doctor Jose Maria Ignacio Garcia, head of the organising committee, told 350 international and national specialists that the focus was on finding a cure, and to improving the quality of life of sufferers.
Other ailments that affect the lungs were also discussed.
Modifications in therapeutic measures taken to treat asthma, including those involving budesonida and formoterol, were discussed, and participants also heard about the results of studies on the genetics of asthma and how the illness affects Europe.
Symptoms generally include coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest plus shortness of breath, and people with allergies, who smoke, or the children of smoking mothers, most likely to be among sufferers.
People living in rural areas are less likely to develop asthma as their immune systems are usually stronger, while those living in towns and cities can find their immune systems are not so well equipped to fight the illness. | Return to Top
