Defence lawyers request retrial

DEFENCE lawyers representing convicted murderer Tony King have requested a retrial at the lower provincial courts in Málaga.

If the request is successful, the retrial will begin in late April. King was found guilty of murdering Rocio Wanninkhof after the case was reopened at the Andalucía High Court of Justice. Dolores Vázquez had originally been convicted of the murder but was acquitted after 17 months in prison.

The defence lawyer for King, Javier Saavedra, claimed insufficient evidence had been submitted, in particular, the difference in the statement provided by King and the evidence collected by investigators, including the fibres of hair found beneath the finger nails of the victim, which did not match King’s.
