Carmen Thyssen Bornemiza Museum

• 29 Mar 2007 •

MALAGA will be home to the Carmen Thyssen Bornemisza Museum with 358 works of art on loan for 15 years, due to an agreement reached between the local city hall and Baroness Thyssen, Carmen Cervera.

Approximately 40 per cent of the paintings have not been exhibited before and they will include works by Zurbaran, Romero de Torres, Moreno Villa, Benjamin Palencia, Zuloaga and Sorolla amongst others.

All of the paintings are by Spanish artists and are from the 19th century. The museum will be located in the Arab-style Palacio de Villalon, in the centre of Malaga, which is currently being restored and should be complete within three years. The five-floor building is just 500 metres from the Picasso Museum and will also house the Malaga History Museum.
