Battle is on for a new centre for immigrants

• 05 Apr 2007 •

A NEW centre for immigrants is being demanded as the present Internment Centre for Immigrants (CIE) in Malaga - where people are held while awaiting deportation – is in a shameful state. The call for new premises is being made to the central government in Madrid by local authorities, associations and non- government organisations.

Concerns are also being voiced over the workings at the CIE, with additional demands for basic social, medical and legal services to be provided for the immigrants, some of whom it was revealed in a recent survey, are forced to depend on the language skills of other interns when seeking medical advice as there is no interpreter.
