A new arrival causes a stir

AN unexpected newborn has arrived at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Málaga.

This came as a complete surprise to most visitors who did not know that CAC were expecting their firstborn.

The good news is it’s a healthy looking girl, the bad news is the size – five metres in length.

The piece is the latest offering from Australian-born Ron Mueck. The 46-year-old artist, currently based in London, is showing for the first time here in Spain.

The polyester resin ‘doll’ has received more than 5,000 visitors so far, a record number for the centre since it opened in February 2003. Along with the exhibit is a video showing how it was created and a documentary about the artist.

‘A Girl’ will be on display at the centre until June 17.
