Mother fights over home that is no use to anyone

• 12 Apr 2007 •

A BRITISH mother who paid a 145,000 euros deposit on a two-bedroom front-line golf apartment being built in Malaga now finds she cannot live in, sell, or let her completed home because it was built without a licence.

Patricia Egan of Fulham, London, paid the deposit – a third of the price of the apartment in the Los Lagos development in Elvira - four years ago, but since she has discovered that the now completed home is illegal, with the developer ignoring various laws and building illegally, constructing 340 apartments instead of 210 town houses.

In addition the prime located home when completed in 2005 was not front line golf nor had mountain views, though Mrs Egan paid prime money for both.

Her dilemma – highlighted as part of the Selling Houses Abroad programme screened by Channel 4 on Tuesday night – has now led her to help form a pressure group to bring together people facing similar plights as a result of purchasing illegally built homes in Marbella.

“Many are in a far worse situation than I am, for I bought the apartment for retirement, but for others homes that have turned out to be illegal have been aimed as their main base.

“I feel really sorry for every individual affected, but as a group we can fight together. It is dreadful that so many people have suffered as the victims of corruption in Marbella, and I am willing to take it even to Tony Blair if necessary,” she said. Others in similar positions to Mrs Egan who are keen to join forces in an attempt to find a solution to their problems can contact the web site www.marbellascandal.com
