SIX MEMBERS from two different divisions of an East European international crime gang living in Malaga province have been arrested by National Police in an operation named Lexus.
The men – from Serbia Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania – could face up to 14 charges of violent robbery and forgery following raids on homes and warehouse in the Malaga, Cadiz and Sevilla provinces. Some already had warrants out for their arrests.
A number of properties in Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Marbella have been searched, with police taking possession of 6,000 euros in cash, jewellery, electronic equipment and a stolen vehicle. Police have not ruled out further arrests as part of the Lexus operation.
Policeman hurt in
robbery shoot-out
A POLICEMAN had to be treated for a slight gun wound to a leg after a shoot out with two hooded men while they were trying to flee a failed raid on a resort bar on Good Friday.
One of the two men – both Spanish – was caught after a spectacular chase in Los Boliches, but Fuengirola police, who traced their getaway car, have yet to find the second attacker.
Revellers jailed
FOUR men in their 20s have each been jailed for two years after a night out celebrating in Benalmadena Costa in December, 2001, ended with them throwing glasses, ashtrays, bottles and a bar stool at a waiter after he asked them to behave outside a night club.
The waiter, unable to work for 50 days due to head and arm injuries received in the attack which left him with a 10 centimetres scar, is also to receive 4,200 euros compensation from the men.
Flatmate stabbed
A PORTUGUESE man born in Mozambique has been jailed for two years for stabbing a friend with a knife during an argument. He and two others shared a flat within the Marbella area. The victim is also to be paid 1,199 euros compensation.
Knock out blow
A BOLIVIAN who hit another woman over the head with a large jar in an apartment in Gaucin Street, Malaga, knocking her unconscious and in need of hospital treatment, has been arrested by local police.
Manager held
A Benalmadena restaurant manager who threatened to denounce and deport illegal immigrants who worked for him without contracts and whom he owed money to has been arrested. | Return to Top
