Raw sewage in full flow

DOZENS of pedestrians, cyclists and car users in Benalmadena were faced with a river of raw sewage when a man-hole was literally lifted from the ground and the contents of the underground pipes spilled out into the street.

Dodging the flow of excrement, one passer-by said: “It was absolutely disgusting. You don’t expect to see this sort of stuff flowing down the middle of the pavement and the street. The smell was absolutely foul. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, there was loo roll mixed in and used condoms as well. To top it all off, cars were driving through it not realising what it was and splashing passing pedestrians who were desperately trying to get out of the way.”

The recent spell of heavy rainfall is thought to be the reason behind the burst sewage pipe, located on Avenida Salvador Vincente. Council workers and local police are currently investigating the case.
