Portugal and Ukraine discuss migrants' rights
• 19 Apr 2007 • THE enhancement of rights and opportunities of labour migrants and promotion of protection of their status as Ukrainian citizens were discussed during a visit by a delegation of the Ternopil regional employment centre to Portugal. According to preliminary estimations, almost 58,000 labour migrants from the Ternopil region are working in Portugal, which has a labour migration agreement with Ukraine.
According to the centre’s director, Borys Dovzhyk, the delegation learnt about the work of the general labour inspection and the Portuguese migration authorities as well as meeting Ukrainian associations. The Ukrainian community in Portugal is the biggest among foreign migrant communities with more than 150,000 people. According to current EU research, presently, more than 4 million of Ukrainians are working abroad, in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Poland, Germany and others. | Return to Top
