"Casa Verde Barry" fished a match against 23 other anglers at the Calasparra lake in Murcia. He came second with 70 lbs of fish, mainly carp.
"Baza Barry" says Baza Lake is fishing slow as it has been all winter, with him and his pals having caught a few small carp.
After my trip to Africa I was out within days on "Captain (Brian) Cuba's" Garrucha based boat where my Grandson "H" showed the rest of us how to fish catching the biggest pandora, rose-bellied rockfish and the only red mullet I've seen caught on rod and line. Both "Inflatable Andy" and our intrepid Capitano didn't do badly and I added a new species to my 2008 hunt, a marine goldfish.
The following day I was back out with Brian and two more of his guests, Paul and Andy from Manchester. It turned out another eventful day including an octopus and 10 lb sunfish being caught.
The latter was returned safely and even the Japanese don't eat them apparently? Andy got a shock when he landed an octopus and this was taken home for Paul's Grandparents who live at Cuevas de Almanzora. I told Paul how to prepare it i.e.: Beat the octopus for ten minutes on a rock then simmer in seasoned water for 4 hours with white wine, onions, peppers, garlic, tomatoes and potatoes. After the four hours is up, throw away the octopus and consume the vegetables and liquor!!!
"Captain Mel" took Paul, Stu and "Bumble" out on his Villaricos moored boat and they caught a few.
For further information on any of the above or to find out about beach, boat or coarse fishing licenses see John at the Beachcomber Bar Restaurant on Mojacar Playa or tel 950 473 099. In case of difficulty reaching me (Probably out fishing) ask staff for my mobile number.
Tight lines.
