Man U Premiership Champions

• 15 May 2008 •

Giggs: Hero of the day.Ryan Giggs went into Manchester United's history books on Sunday by creating a storybook finish to the Premiership season.

On a day when Giggs tied Sir Bobby Charlton's record for appearances with United, he sealed a 2-0 win at Wigan that gave Man Utd its 10th Premiership title in 16 seasons.

Chelsea drew their match with Bolton 1-1, allowing United to win the championship outright by two points.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first half penalty kick to open the books for United after Wayne Rooney was pulled down in the penalty area by Wigan's Emmerson Boyce.

But it was Giggs who brought the travelling Red Devils' fans to full-voiced frenzy. Rooney had the ball on the left side of the 18-yard box from where he threaded a sharp pass that found Giggs standing between both Wigan central defenders. He took a step through to clear and then rifled the ball into the net on 80 minutes and the game was done.

In southwest London, Andriy Shevchenko scored on 62 minutes to put Chelsea up 1-0 but Kevin Davies equalized in injury time for Bolton.

Manchester United and Chelsea now travel this week to Moscow where they will meet in an all-England Champions League final.
