Mayor banned from office

SOMONTIN – THE Mayor of Somontin, Ramon Rueda, is facing a nine-year ban from assuming public office for allegedly allowing the municipal water supply to be connected at an illegal property.

He is on trial in Purchena, charged with corruption and failure to perform his duty of pursuing crimes, as he was aware that the house had been built without a license on protected land. His father-in-law, who owns the property, and the promoter, are also on trial and face prison.
