PALMA – POLICE are considering pressing charging against Nigerian woman for putting her baby at risk after she was found to be carrying drugs inside her body. In total she was carrying more than 1.5 kilos of cocaine and has been charged with a crime against public health. She was admitted to hospital in Palma de Mallorca after her baby went into cardiac arrest.
The Nigerian woman, who was eight months pregnant, was on a plane from Madrid to Palma, and had almost 70 balls of cocaine inside her.
She began to suffer convulsions on the plane, and upon landing, she was rushed to Son Llatzer Hospital where she underwent an emergency procedure to bring the birth forward.
This is also when the balls of cocaine were discovered and doctors alerted the police.
After a recovery period, the mother was transferred to the detention wing of Son Espases University Hospital, while the baby is said to be in good condition at Son Llatzer.
Her son, aged 18 months, was also travelling with her at the time, and has now been taken into the care of Social Services.
