MALAGA – THE Junta de Andalucia is to spend €400 million less on public health this year than last. Malaga is already one of the provinces in Andalucia with the lowest amounts spent per capita, official figures show. Critics complain less money will be spent on services and staff making hospital waiting times even longer than they are now.
Rafael Gonzalez Delgado, the Malaga secretary for the Health branch of union Comisiones Obreras, claims that the public health service in Malaga is worse now than it was a few years ago, and believes it will get worse.
The amount to be spent per inhabitant in Andalucia this year is €1,121, €59 less than in 2010.
This year Andalucia wil be the region in Spain with the lowest amount spent on public health per capita after the Balearics (€1,003), Valencia Region (€1,078) and Madrid (€1,103).
Meanwhile, the Basque Country enjoys the most spent per inhabitant, with €1,563
The average in Spain is €1,343 per person.
