VELEZ-MALAGA is set to get a Convention Centre, as presented at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid last week. After Madrid and Cataluña, Andalucia is the third most important region for the kind of tourism that this centre will bring. In 2009 more than 1.46 million people visited Andalucia for meetings and conferences which generated €733 million in revenue.
The construction of the center will involve a €9.7 million investment. The cost will be shared between the Regional and Provincial Governments and Velez-Malaga Town Hall.
The completion period is 20 months from tender, which is currently underway.
It will be 5,400 square meters built over three levels on a 33,700 square meter plot with landscaped gardens and access to the motorway.
It will house a central building with seating for more than a 1,000 people as well as an exhibition area, translation cabins, multipurpose meetings rooms, offices, among others.
