A BRITISH man wanted for questioning in connection with the theft of £9,500 (€11,125) from the shop he managed in Blackburn, is believed to have fled to the Costa Blanca. Marc Atherton, aged 29, got a flight to Alicante Airport and is thought to be in Benidorm with his partner Jamie Crossman, according to UK police reports.
Bolton resident Atherton is suspected of stealing three days’ worth of takings of Poundworld in the Mall Shopping Centre.
His mother, Carol Smith, 55, told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It is so out of character for him and it is such a shock. I’m gobsmacked.”
She added: “I don’t think he’s in his right mind.
PC Leo Noctor said: “It is only a matter of time before we catch up with him.”
If anyone has information on Mr Atherton’s whereabouts, contact police on 01254 353576 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
