TWO members of the International Christian Assembly in Torrevieja went to a swimming pool last week – not for a relaxing swim, but for a baptism, watched by around 100 church members. Long-standing church-goers, Roland Oldroyd, 60, and has wife Yolande, both retired teachers, now living in north Torrevieja, were baptised by total immersion by pastor Rafael Restrepo.
“I have been baptised before, but then I did not know anything about it because I was a baby. This time it was my decision,” said Roland.
Rafael has baptised more than 200 people during his ministry, and this service, carried out at a public swimming pool in Vista Agul, Villa Martin, was in comfort, in heated water.
He recalled the service with the most discomfort was when he had to undertake a baptism service in a fast-flowing river filled with melted ice.
“It was absolutely freezing, but we managed it,” he recalled.
The babtism was followed by a celebration with food and singing at the church at the corner of Urbano Arregue and Pilar de Horadada, in the Acequion district of the city.
