ON the February 5 more than 200 people from various charities, clubs and organisations, of every nationality from the Torrevieja area, gathered in the Parque Natural, La Mata, to plant a tree in the name of their organization. The trees, mainly fig, both white and black, together with a wooden placque with the name of their organization, were provided by the Parks Department.
The trenches with the irrigation system in place were ready and waiting to receive the trees , and the park gardeners followed behind with the plastic protection sleeves to cover the trees once they were planted.
All in all, a good number of trees were planted, which when matured will make a lovely shady area within the park.
