Sex pest gets 22 years prison

A MAN has been sentenced 22 years in prison by a Palma court for sexually assaulting 18 women. The assaults occurred between 2005 and 2008 on a Mallorca beach. Prosecutors reduced the initial 80 year jail sentence they were seeking for  34-year-old Jose Carlos C.C., reaching an agreement with defence lawyers.

He must also pay €30,000 compensation to the 18 women of Spanish, German, Swedish and British nationalities. Jose Carlos, originally from La Coruña in northwest Spain, is married with two children. He sexually assaulted his victims in the beach area known as Es Comu located between Playas de Muro and Can Picafort (northwest Mallorca).

On two occasions he tried to rape his victims, but failed as these managed to escape. Three of the victims were injured during the assaults and one of them was under 18. The first of the attacks occurred in September 2005, with two more in October and December that year.

Five women were assaulted each year between 2006 and 2008.

It is thought Jose Carlos who has been in prison since will serve nine years of his sentence.
