Violent attacks on Costa Blanca

VIOLENCE came to the Costa Blanca this last weekend in three unrelated but equally appalling incidents. In Alfas del Pi, a 23 year old man was stabbed in the neck and abdomen in the early hours of last Friday night. The incident occurred on the Cami Vell d’Altea and the emergency services took the victim to Alicante hospital where he remained in a serious condition.

In a separate attack involving a fight between two Equadorians in a nightclub in Gandia, National police were called following a fight between them where the ear of one was bitten off by the other. The victim was taken to hospital but it proved impossible to re-attach the ear.

In perhaps  the worst incident, 41 year old Vincent Villanueva , the president of the Flowers and Plants Association of Valencia was attacked and killed in an as yet unexplained attack in Don Jilton bar in Betara, just outside Valencia last Friday in the early hours of the morning.

It seems Mr Villanueva upset a younger man who was drinking at the same bar with his female partner, by making a comment or look which upset the attacker. The victim went to leave the bar but was punched several times in the face by the man, who then returned to his partner and finished his drink before leaving.

Mr Villanueva died on the scene of a heart attack, presumably brought on by the assault. Guardia Civil are following lines of enquiry to find the perpetrator whose actions were caught on the bar’s CCTV system. Mr Villanueva leaves a wife and two small children.
