AIDS woman jailed for syringe attack on boy, 9

PALMA – THE hepatitis and AIDS infected woman who plunged a hypodermic syringe into the back of a nine-year old boy has been sentenced to one-and-a-half years in prison. The 30-year old pleaded guilty to the crime, which took place at a bar in Coll de’en Rabassa in Palma on the afternoon of July 26, 2005.

The drug addicted defendant had been arguing with the female owner of the bar in Calle Cardenal Rossell and was asked to leave the premises when she began to wield the syringe, plunging it into the back of the victim, who was with his father at the time.

The boy had to undergo a tough antiviral medical treatment and regular checks to see if he had been infected by either of the infectious diseases; luckily he was not.

In addition to the jail term, the woman has been ordered to undergo outpatient treatment for the same period of time as she suffers from a mental disorder.

She has also bee ordered to pay €2,160 compensation to the victim.
