SUPERMARKET group Mercadona has invested more than €419m in buying products from Malaga providers. The chain has increased its investment in local products throughout Andalucia by five per cent compared to 2009, spending a total of €2,236m. A spokesperson for the chain, said their business is in constant expansion despite the economic crisis and they want to use this to benefit local producers.
In 2010, Mercadona opened five supermarkets in the province, with an investment of €12.5m, making the total number of shops 86, and creating 70 jobs in the province. In the past four years, they have employed 270 people increasing their personnel in the province to 4,545 people.
Throughout Andalucia, Mercadona has 318 supermarkets and 15,105 employees.
