A follower of the ‘punk’ movement was sentenced on Monday for stealing the Spanish flag and trying to burn it in July 2009. He claims that he did so after a friend bet that he would not be able to steal the flag from the mast outside the Sa Gerreria courthouse and burn it. The court has fined him a total of €630, which can be paid out at €3 a day for seven months, although it seems that the defendant is insolvent.
