Woman arrested for allegedly killing newborn child

NATIONAL POLICE arrested a 24-year-old Moroccan woman in El Ejido for allegedly killing her newborn baby. Her parents and younger sister were also arrested. The baby’s body was found in an alleyway near their home where it had allegedly been thrown from a third floor apartment by the mother who was taken to the Poniente Hospital in El Ejido.

Although she initially denied it, she showed obvious signs of having given birth so the hospital proceeded to call the police. The woman remains in hospital under police surveillance and will be sent to El Acebuche prison when she is released.

It is not known whether her family helped her give birth and dispose of the baby, although it was revealed that she had hidden the pregnancy from her family and friends.

The woman is married, but separated from her husband two years ago, and allegedly disposed of the baby because she was ashamed and believed she had dishonoured her family.

Family friends believe that had she told her parents she was pregnant the tragedy could have been avoided.
