ALICANTE Province has seen its fifth case in the past month where drivers have caused accidents by driving in the wrong direction along carriageways, and in this latest incident which took place last Thursday, the consequences were fatal. A French driver who was driving contrary to the flow of traffic, was seriously hurt when he crashed head on into another vehicle, killing a 63 year old Spanish man. The accident occurred at Monforte del Cid on the A31 motorway.
The injured man had to be freed by firemen from his car and was transferred to Alicante hospital for treatment, where he was kept under Police guard as it was not known whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time.
