Launch of Costa Blanca Writers

READERS of this paper won’t be surprised to know that there are many talented English speaking authors living and writing on the Costa Blanca today. Now seven of these authors have got together to promote their work by forming Costa Blanca Writers.

They would like to invite anyone interested to the launch event and book signing in Benissa on 14th April. This will be an opportunity to find out what makes a very diverse group of writers tick, how they draw their inspiration and some of the stories behind the creation of their published works.

They have published novels, poetry and self-help books with broad appeal, often featuring locations on the Costa Blanca itself. The novels feature crime thrillers, a family saga and some dark (and light) tales. Other works include personalised childrens books and self help publications.

Each author will be talking about their work and future plans. Afterwards you will be able to meet them individually over a glass of wine for discussion and personal book signings.

Mike Hillier, one of the founder members, says that “Nowadays unknown authors stand very little chance of having their work accepted by mainstream publishers, particularly if they don’t live in the UK.

We are isolated from our main markets in the UK and North America and can’t do the usual things that writers can do in Britain to become better known – like arranging book signings in local bookshops, giving readings of our books to clubs or utilising the advantages of being a ‘local author’. “Nevertheless,” he continued, “we appreciate there is a significant number of English readers in this region and we initially hope to gain their support.”

Agnes Hall, another of the founder members said, “Membership of Costa Blanca Writers is open to any writers in the English language living in the region who have published or self-published a complete work which is available for sale to the public and want to make their marketing more effective by co-operating as a group.”

If you wish to know more about Costa Blanca Writers you can contact the group through the website www.costablancawriters.com, or telephone Mike Hillier on 966 408 298 Anyone interested can come  along to the official launch at 6.00 pm on Thursday 14th April at the La Seu University building, just behind the Ayuntamiento in Benissa, near the AP-7 junction and N332. Entry and refreshments are free.
