€7m convention tourism boost for local economy

MALAGA City will hold five major events which will inject some €7m to the local economy. The head of the Convention Bureau, Francisco Quereda, announced at the AC Malaga Palacio Hotel recently that five conventions will be held in the city between May and November, which are expected to be attended by 7,000 professionals.

Four of them are medicine related and the other is for library and documentation specialists.

All will be carried out by one of Spain’s leading companies in organising corporate events, Grupo Pacifico, who have carried out 1,500 conventions in 30 years.

The manager, Jose Maria Avila, claimed that the average expenditure of tourists visiting the area for this type of events is for times more than that of the average visitor, with an average daily amount of €400 being spent, and an average stay of 2.5 days.

He also commented that Malaga has excellent facilities for carrying out conferences and convetions, which is why the city has been chosen by the company for five of the most important 500 events they have planned for 2011.
